Aisha Bywaters wins second BAFTA for Three Little Birds Casting

Not as well covered as its counterparts, the BAFTA Craft Awards took place on Sunday 28 April.  Celebrities you don’t often see gracing the red carpet turned up in their dozens to support their peers (and themselves) who had been nominated for awards such as; Emerging Talent, Costume Design, Factual - Director and more.  Among the celebrities were a handful of the cast of ITV’s period drama ‘Three Little Birds’, along with the show’s writer Lenny Henry and casting director Aisha Bywaters.  Bywaters was nominated for Scripted Casting and went on to win in her category. It was a lovely moment to see Aisha handed her award by the women she had casted for 'Three Little Birds', Lenny Henry was also seated at the ceremony recording Bywaters win on his phone. Henry also tweeted how proud he was of Bywaters after she'd won. Speaking to Bywaters about her win later on in the evening she told The Floor Mag, “It’s all about being seen. I got to work on a show that tells the story of my family, their families. It meant so much to so many people within my community". Earlier on on the media line, Rochelle Neil, who plays Leah in 'Three Little Birds' spoke about how much she enjoyed being on set with her co-stars and how challenging it was to step into the 1950s.
