On Repeat: Olamide drops first song from upcoming project

Nigerian artist Olamide has just dropped the audio and visuals for Rock, the first single from his forthcoming album UY Scuti. Produced by Eskeez, Rocks has a mid-tempo melody accentuated by the soothing sound of marimbas and violins that makes for a light-hearted serenade. The video, directed by Nigerian actor Clarence Peters, stars Olamide and dancer Soliat Bada planning an intimate meet-up.

UY Scuti is set to follow the late October release Carpe Diem. With over 360 million plays across streaming platforms and some of 2020s biggest afrobeats hits like Infinity (feat. Omah Lay) and Loading (feat. Bad Boy Timz), Carpe Diem is the rapper’s most successful project to date.

The upcoming album is said to pull inspiration from all directions; dancehall, amapiano, as well as alté to create a record personal to the artist. “I chose UY Scuti for the title because this project is way bigger than anything I’ve ever done before…From the creativity, the amount of work that went into the project…it’s just a new Olamide inside me.” Named after the largest known star in our Universe, the Nigerian superstar is setting out to firmly position himself under the spotlight of Africa’s thriving music scene.
