A Brand New Mini Online Music Festival by Setting Da St
It’s safe to say that this year has been a bit of a whirlwind, especially for the music industry. With venues and creative spaces forced to close, opportunities to perform live have been far and few between.
So, it comes as no surprise that we were really excited and honoured to be asked by Setting Da Standards (SDS) to co-program their new virtual festival “The Bop Live”. As part of their Croydon Hub Project 2020, the aim was to build a network of creatives and shift the public’s focus onto what Croydon has to offer. With many of Croydon’s creative spaces being closed down over the years, it has been difficult for artists to showcase their talent in their local grassroot spaces and SDS are working to change this. ‘A show featuring known headlining names at a grassroot level has not been produced in Croydon for a very long time; The Bop Live could change this.’ – Founder/CEO, Makeda Bennett-Amparbeng and Co-Founder/Creative Director, Jade Reid.
The mini festival will contain 4 stages featuring 4 headline acts and 8 supporting acts, curated by The Floor Magazine, Yes Gurl and Setting Da Standards. Each stage represents a venue/space in Croydon – Reggaemasters, The Front Room, Project B and Limitless VR, including a musical theme from an all-female stage to a rapper’s stage. Headlining for The Floor Mag stage is Mychelle, followed by supporting acts Solaariss and Emily Mutaako, bringing an alternative RnB fusion to your screens.
The Bop Live will take place on Friday November 27th 2020 from 17:00 and can be streamed on YouTube or via theboplive.com. Supported by The Arts Council England and Croydon Council, this is not an event to be missed - We can’t wait!
